Personalize Campaigns

You can use the Mail Merge feature to customize text in your campaign content (including the subject line, content, etc.).

To insert personalized content in the subject line:

  1. Go to the Content step of an in progress campaign.
  2. Place the cursor at the beginning of the Subject line.
  3. Click the Mail Merge drop down menu, and select the field (e.g. First Name).
    Note: if a contact does not have the field populated that you choose to mail merge, that piece of text in the campaign will appear empty/blank for them unless a fallback value has been set via settings.

To insert personalized content in the main body of a campaign:

  1. Go to the Content step of an in progress campaign.
  2. Place the cursor where you would like to insert the personalized content.
  3. Click the Insert icon in the editing toolbar, hover on Recipient Details to expand the choices, and select the field (e.g. First Name).
    Note: if a contact does not have the field populated that you choose to mail merge, that piece of text in the campaign will appear empty/blank for them unless a fallback value has been set via settings.

To insert personalized content in another area of the campaign:
such as within a Profile to personalize the From Name or Email; within a Reply Email Address; within a link; etc.):

  1. Go to the Content step of an in progress campaign.
  2. Place the cursor at the beginning of the Subject line.
  3. Click the Mail Merge drop down menu, and select the field.
  4. A tag will be generated inside a set of brackets. Select/highlight the entire tag (including the brackets), and right-click or Ctrl+X to cut.
  5. Go to the specific element of campaign content (such as the Profile details, advanced settings for reply email addresses, etc.), and click in the field where you want the personalization to appear, and then right-click or Ctrl+V to paste.
    Note: if a contact does not have the field populated that you choose to mail merge, that piece of text in the campaign will appear empty/blank for them unless a fallback value has been set via settings.
NOTE: After setting up your campaign with personalized content, we always recommend using the recipient preview feature and sending a small internal test to ensure all of the personalization is appearing as intended before distributing the final campaign.
