What is ALT text? How can I use it in my campaign?

Most email programs turn off images by default and many recipients choose by personal preference to block images in the HTML version of emails they receive.

By adding ALT text or Alternative text to an image, you can specify text to describe your image and be shown in its place in the event that it is not displayed.

It’s important to note that not all email clients support the rendering of ALT text so whether it is displayed for your recipient will depend on what email program they are using to view your campaign. The recipients' email program will also determine how that text is rendered so it won't necessarily appear the same for all recipients.

Even though it can be a good idea to use ALT text in your campaigns,  we also recommend balancing the amount of images and text included in your campaign. In addition to the possibility of your images not displaying, corporate email filters can interpret messages composed primarily of images as spam and block or drop the messages.

To add ALT text to an image that has been inserted into an editable area in your campaign:

  1. Right click on the image.
  2. Select Image Properties.
  3. Enter desired text into the Alternative Text box and click OK.

The ability to add ALT text to an image in an image area is not currently available.
